Giants News Update: Panik, Hicks battling through struggles

In today's Giants news update, the San Francisco Giants and manager Bruce Bochy are doing everything they can to help second basemen Joe Panik and Brandon Hicks get through their recent struggles on the field.

Per Ryan Hood of MLB.com, Bochy has been resting Hicks as of late in order to keep him from attempting to do too much in his current funk at the plate (eight hits in 26 games).

"I think Joe Panik could use a break," Bochy said, via Hood's article on Saturday. "[Hicks is] going through a tough time right now, so hopefully the off-time has helped. We're looking for a shot in the arm right now. He did that for us earlier. Hopefully he can find that again."

Panik has been enduring hardship of his own in his first week in the Majors, working his way through an 0-for-12 stretch after debuting with a 2-for-4 flourish.

Brandon Hicks hopes that he can provide Panik some needed rest, along with raising his own .170 average on the season.

"You get in trouble when you're thinking about mechanics and that [stuff] whenever you're in the box," Hicks stated. "You want to do good out there, and whenever you're struggling, you try to do more, which gets you in even more trouble, but I feel good, and I'm ready to go."
