Dodgers designate Michael Morse for assignment

The Michael Morse era in Los Angeles didn't last long. Hours after he was acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday, Morse was designated for assignment.

The transaction removes him from the team's 40-man roster and leaves a number of possibilities for the 11-year veteran. The Dodgers can trade him or put him on waivers. Or they can reinstate him to their roster, which would require a corresponding move to clear space.

Morse signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Marlins this offseason.

The 33-year-old hit .214 with four home runs over 52 games with Miami.
