Are the Giants in the mix for David Price?

In this Giants rumors and news update, the San Francisco Giants could be attempting to position themselves as players in the David Price trade sweepstakes as the team debates on whether they're in the market to bolster their starting rotation.

Per Mychal Miltenberger of iSportsWeb, "David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays would be the surest option for the front office to consider and they are.  Chris Haft of MLB.com reports the Giants sent special consultant Pat Burrell to actively scout Rays’ ace David Price and veteran infielder Ben Zobrist."

There are two potential problems with a Price acquisition. The first would be the hefty price tag attached to the Rays ace. Tampa is reportedly looking for a bigger haul than the Chicago Cubs received in dealing Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel (super-prospect Addison Russell, established MLB pitcher Dan Straily, and a player to be named).

The second would be the Rays. Although they are 9 1/2 games out in the AL East, the weakened state of the division could convince them that they are still alive - something that could cause them to hold onto Price at least in the short-term.
