Carney Honored With CBI Inspiration Award

CollegeBaseballInsider.com Release

SAN FRANCISCO – Former University of San Francisco baseball player Joey Carney was honored by CollegeBaseballInsider.com with the Tom Walter/Pete Frates College Baseball Inspiration Award on Wednesday.

Finishing his senior year with the Dons last spring, Carney's journey included a touching story of donating his liver to his mother Paula, who then tragically passed away due to complications.

The award, started by CollegeBaseballInsider.com (CBI) in 2011, is named for Tom Walter, the head coach at Wake Forest who donated a kidney to freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan before the 2011 season, and Pete Frates, whose courageous battle with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, captured the nation's attention with the Ice Bucket Challenge.
