Jim Harbaugh warns players of off-field pitfalls in today's 49ers news update

In today's 49ers news update, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is doing his very best to keep his players out of the harsh media spotlight off-the-field - especially when it comes to situations within their control.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Harbaugh is doing everything he can to keep the tabloids quiet in the month between minicamp and training camp.

“Beware with whom you associate,” Harbaugh said to his players, via Lindsay H. Jones of USA Today. “Very important to know your surroundings. Friend or foe? There always seems to be a foe present.”

Per troubled linebacker Aldon Smith, who faces sentencing on July 25th after pleading guilty to a DUI and felony weapons charges, the talk was not specifically aimed at him.

“He was talking to everybody, because anybody can be in a situation,” Smith stated. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m going to enjoy my month.”

While Smith will enjoy his month, one can't help but think that it could be a tense one for Harbaugh - especially with the way the offseason has presented itself so far.
