Does Culpepper add value to the 49ers?

An already underwhelming Quarterback group may get another questionable NFL arm. Daunte Culpepper, 34, is scheduled for a workout at 49ers team headquarters in Santa Clara next Monday.

While posting his best numbers in Minnesota alongside electric (and now retired) receiver Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper's NFL stock has steadily declined since his best season in 2004. Coming off a year with the UFL Sacramento Mountain Lions, Culpepper is looking to re-establish himself as a serviceable NFL Quarterback.

The 49ers appear to be set with Smith and Kaepernick making the final roster, however neither undrafted free agent Jeremiah Masoli nor AFL journeyman McLeod Bethel-Thompson has established them self as a legitimate 3rd option on the roster.

The move to bring in Culpepper is consistent with the 49ers conservative approach to free-agency. Despite groans from 'The Faithful' the 49ers have stuck to their plan of patience, allowing them to sign a number of under-the-radar free agents without overpaying on more known talents. Culpepper is well past his prime, but on a roster with no proven quarterback he serves as a guy who understands the league and would be the only other QB on the roster to have taken an NFL snap.

.....and it turns out he still has a pretty strong arm.
