Richard's complete-game gem drops D-backs

SAN DIEGO -- Clayton Richard allowed just one run, while tossing a complete game as the Padres avoided a sweep by beating the D-backs, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park.

The only damage that Richard allowed came on Chris Iannetta's third-inning homer. The left-hander allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out six to pick up his first win since April 30, which also came against the D-backs.

Richard got all the offensive support he needed when the Padres scored three runs in the fifth. Ryan Schimpf hit a solo homer in the inning, while Hunter Renfroe scored on an error by center fielder Gregor Blanco and Richard helped his own cause with an RBI single to right.
