Pau Gasol says he’s not going to try to fill Tim Duncan’s shoes

The Spurs will enter this season without a lot of institutional knowledge, specifically in the form of Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw and Matt Bonner. That’s 44 combined years of basketball experience right there.

But according to Spurs’ Coach Gregg Popovich, the team has a tool to make that transition easier.

It comes in the form of a 36-year-old center from Spain, a six-time All-Star who won two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

“One thing that makes me feel a little bit better with that loss is that Pau Gasol is a very intelligent man, and he understands how to play, he’s played for a lot of good people, and that’s going to help us in that loss,” Popovich said.
