PROVIDENCE — Growing up with a front row seat in his father’s St. Anthony’s basketball dynasty, Dan Hurley never tasted the bitterness of a true rivalry game. The Friars of Jersey City were simply too good.
That’s not the case today. Thanks to the eye-opening rebuilding jobs engineered by Hurley and Ed Cooley, the University of Rhode Island-Providence College basketball rivalry is as healthy as it’s been in years. The latest version of the hoops passion play tips off at 4:30 this afternoon at a sold-out Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
This is the only state sporting event that divides families and sparks office bets.
