PROVIDENCE – Marquette pulled away in the fourth quarter and ended the dream of a first-ever NCAA Tournament berth for Providence College on Saturday at Anderson Stadium.
After falling behind 6-5 midway through the third period, Marquette out-scored PC 5-1 to take 10-7 lead and then hang on for a 10-9 victory to repeat as Big East Tournament champions.
PC scored twice in the final 1:45 to make it a nail-biter late but a final shot inside 10 seconds sailed over the Marquette net.
The game was tight from the start.
