BU 2, PC 1: Freshman goalie Oettinger holds off Friars

PROVIDENCE — Boston University freshman standout Jake Oettinger made 35 saves as the Terriers edged Providence College, 2-1, at Schneider Arena on Friday night.

The Friars outplayed BU, which is ranked fifth and sixth in this week’s national polls, by a wide margin in the third period (16-6) but PC couldn’t get the tying goal past Oettinger.

"The story of the game was our goalie. He was immense,'' said Terriers coach David Quinn.

PC coach Nate Leaman agreed: "You've got to give a lot of credit to their goaltender. He played terrific.''

The Terriers (8-4-1, 3-1-1 Hockey East) mustered only 18 shots on PC’s Hayden Hawkey (16 saves), but made the most of them, scoring twice in 1:21 in the second period.
