Two Close Wins Gives Gaels Double Header Sweep over Pilots

MORAGA, Calif. --- The Saint Mary's Gaels edged the Portland Pilots 7-5 and 6-5 to take both games of a West Coast Conference double header played on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. Portland's Kevin Wade, Ryan Hoogerwerf and Mike Hicks each homered during the double header.

The Gaels (16-6, 2-0 WCC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first game before the Pilots (4-18, 0-5 WCC) came storming back. Beau Brundage got one back in the top of the fourth when the Pilots executed a double steal in a first-and-third situation.

An inning later, Matt Kelly pulled the Pilots within three when he drilled a double down the left field line, which allowed Tate Budnick to score.
