No. 1 Stanford Overcomes Pilots in Exhibition Match

STANFORD, Calif. --- The top-ranked and two-time defending national champion Stanford Cardinal scored three first-half goals before holding on for a 3-0 win over the Portland Pilots in an exhibition men's soccer match at Cagan Stadium on Sunday.

Stanford's first goal came in the 11th minute when Tomas Hilliard-Arce found the back of the net with a header off a corner sent in by Derek Waldeck. It was a 2-0 game courtesy an unassisted goal by Corey Baird in the 19th minute, and in the 33rd minute the Cardinal claimed their second goal off a corner kick, with Collin Liberty providing the finishing touch.
