Steelers awarded a third-round compensatory draft pick

The Steelers got some welcome news today before they head to Indianapolis for the NFL combine next week. They received a third-round compensatory pick – No. 105 overall – in the 2017 entry draft.

The Steelers now have eight draft picks, one each in the seven rounds plus the compensatory selection.

Under the rules for compensatory draft picks, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The Steelers lost free agents Steve McLendon, Antwon Blake, Will Johnson, Sean Spence, Brandon Boykin, Kelvin Beachum, Byron Stingiliy and Jordan Todman.
