The Steelers restructured offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert’s contract in order to create more cap space, according to a source. The Steelers created more than $2 million in cap space for the 2016 season by converting Gilbert’s base salary into a signing bonus.
The Steelers recently signed Vince Williams to a new deal and might need the space to negotiate other deals before and during the season.
Gilbert signed a five-year, $30 million contract in August 2014. His deal runs through the 2019 season.
