2015 NFL Draft: Pittsburgh Steelers Select OLB Bud Dupree

With the 22nd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Bud Dupree out of Kentucky.

Position: Outside Linebacker

Measurables: 6’4”, 269 lbs, 32 ⅝” arm length, 9 ¾” hands

Analysis:

One of the fastest risers on the board thanks to a stellar Combine where he posted a 42” vertical jump, 4.56 40-yard dash time, and a eye-popping 138” broad jump, Dupree barely scratched the surface of his athletic potential at Kentucky. That’s scary to say seeing that his 23.5 career sacks was the most by any active SEC player at the close of the 2014 season. He also proved durable, starting the last 38 games of his collegiate career.

A pure athlete if there ever was one, Dupree’s chiseled frame is built for the NFL game. His power is at a whole different level than most of his peers and he uses it to toss around tight ends and break through blocks with brute force. His closing burst is naturally explosive, and his willingness to use it to drop ball carriers at full speed showcases a competitive instinct that will serve him well at the next level. Dupree’s ceiling is higher than all but a couple defenders in this draft, and it’s very possible that he’ll separate himself as the marquee pass rusher of the 2015 class as the years go on.
