Pirates aren't sweating about trade deadline

ST. LOUIS — With fewer than five weeks left before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the Pirates have 35 wins and 41 losses. They marched into Monday, their final day off before the All-Star break, five games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in a tightly clustered National League Central Division and trailing by 11 games in the wild-card standings.

In other words, the Pirates are in a precarious position.

“In the middle,” Andrew McCutchen said, with a laugh, before Sunday’s game. “We’re in the middle of it. It’s kind of a weird division this year, and the fact that we’re where we are as a team, the fact we’re in third place is kind of crazy.
