Opening Day status in the air for Polanco, Stewart

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Pirates are in wait-and-see mode with Gregory Polanco and Chris Stewart, both nursing injuries eight days before Opening Day.

Polanco has been sidelined since Thursday due to a sore left shoulder, though he said the decision to scratch him from Saturday's lineup was a precautionary measure. Stewart left Friday's game due to left groin discomfort, but he checked out with only a mild strain after an MRI exam.

Neither player was in the lineup Sunday at Spectrum Field in the Pirates' 6-3 loss to the Phillies, and it's too early to make a definitive statement regarding either player's status for Opening Day.
