ATLANTA — A few familiar faces welcomed the Pirates to SunTrust Park on a rainy Monday. Brandon Phillips and Matt Adams homered. Ender Inciarte collected a career-high five hits. And home-plate umpire Phil Cuzzi ejected a pair of Pirates for arguing balls and strikes.
The end result on a soggy night at the ballpark was a 5-2 Braves win. The Pirates (20-25) dropped the series opener, their first game at Atlanta’s new stadium.
For Cole (2-5), Monday marked his worst start this season. He was charged with five earned runs in 4u2154 innings, allowing 10 hits and a walk.
