MIAMI — Before the weekend series between the Pirates and Miami Marlins began, Marlins bullpen coach Dean Treanor said hello to some of his old charges. He chatted with Gerrit Cole, and Gift Ngoepe, who made his major league debut this week and will make his first career start Friday night.
“I talked to Gift today and congratulated him and asked him what took him so long,” Treanor joked.
For the past six seasons, Treanor managed Class AAA Indianapolis. He had every player on the Pirates’ roster who came up through the system except for Andrew McCutchen.
