The Latest Pirates Rumors On Trading Jon Niese And Josh Bell's Promotion

The MLB trade deadline on July 31st is rapidly approaching, and the trade rumors around the Pittsburgh Pirates starting to heat up. The Pirates are 44-42 and in the position to fight for a wild card spot. That could make them buyers, or sellers if they struggling leading up to the deadline. With that in mind, here all the latest Pirates trade rumors below.

Pirates Shopping Jon Niese?
Pittsburgh netted Niese in a straight-up trade for Neil Walker. So far, it's been a poor trade for the Pirates. Niese is in the midst of a career-worst season, posting a 7-6 record with a 4.87 ERA. The Pirates are at least considering dealing Niese, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Pirates are actively shopping left-hander Jon Niese, according to multiple industry sources ... He is scheduled to start Sunday at PNC Park against the Chicago Cubs in the Pirates’ last game before the All-Star break. The Pirates have called around to a number of clubs recently, per a source, and expect at least a handful to send scouts Sunday

With Niese struggling, it's unclear what exactly the Pirates would get in return. He's making $9 million this year, with team options the next two years for $10 million and $11 million. There's just a $500,000 buyout if the team doesn't pick up the options.

Pirates Promote Josh Bell
Another one of the Pirates' top prospects is getting the call to the majors. First baseman Josh Bell will join the team today.

Bell is the No. 38 prospect in the country and he's replacing Glasnow, the No. 6. The plan for Bell is to be a bench bat for the next three games and then he's heading back to the minors.
