Pirates News: RHP Vance Worley Looking To Get Off To Fast Start In 2015

Entering the first full season of his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, right-handed starter Vance Worley is looking to build off his 2.85 ERA in 110.2 innings with the Pirates by getting out of the gates both healthy and ready to go.

“The last couple of years I didn’t start getting where I wanted to be until we were already in season,” Worley said during voluntary workouts at the Pirates’ spring training complex, via Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “By then it was already too late.”

Worley was released from the Minnesota Twins' roster in the spring of 2014 - just one year removed from being the team's Opening Day starter. Having now staved off injuries and unspecified personal issues, Worley appears ready to go in 2015 - especially with an infant son to keep things in perspective.

“There was a lot of stuff going on there, a lot of personal stuff off the field, family-wise,” Worley said. “Now I got a clear mind and I know that I need to do the best I can now that I have a family to take care of.”
