BRISTOL, Conn. -- Pittsburgh Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi said Monday that running back James Conner will participate fully in practice when the Panthers open Aug. 8.

Conner, who was recently declared cancer-free after battling Hodgkin lymphoma, will be fitted with a GPS device to monitor his practice pace and movements to give the staff a better idea about how he is doing during each practice.

"We have to slow him down," Narduzzi said Monday to ESPN. "He won't slow himself down. We just have to monitor him a little bit, make sure we don't wear him out.
