Basketball kept telling Alan Williams no.

He received few scholarship offers out of Phoenix North High. He went undrafted in 2015 after an outstanding career at UC Santa Barbara. He had to go to China to play, and when he came back and labored through his first workout with the Suns, coach Earl Watson told him to “get in shape.”

Imagine, then, what it must have felt like for Williams when he sat down to sign his new, three-year, $17 million deal with Phoenix.

“Unreal,” Williams said Wednesday at Talking Stick Resort Arena. “To sign that piece of paper basically solidifies myself as an NBA player.
