Smith making saves, passes to help Coyotes

Not many parts of Coyotes goalie Mike Smith’s equipment have gone unused lately amid an onslaught of shots on net that have been mostly snuffed out.

With the glove.

The blocker.

Both pads.

His chest.

And the toe of his skate.

After a record-breaking 58-save performance Saturday against the Blue Jackets in a 3-2 shootout loss, Smith has stopped 200 of the last 211 shots he’s faced over the past five games – a span in which he boasts an impressive .948 save percentage.

“The last two weeks he’s been in the zone,” captain Shane Doan said.
