Coyotes need to fix their penalty-kill problems

A timid offense headlined the Coyotes’ performance in the preseason as they were shut out in their final three games to finish 0-5-1 – the only team in the entire NHL to go winless.

But their proficiency on the penalty kill also wasn’t so flattering.

The Coyotes gave up eight goals on 26 chances, a 69.2 percent success rate that certainly doesn’t show progress from the 76.7 percent efficiency they maintained last season as the league’s second-worst penalty kill.

Keep in mind, though, that the preseason was very much an evaluation period for the team rather than a full-fledged tune-up for the games that matter.
