Looking at how this market is playing out, the Phillies are better off sticking to status quo. Look at the going rate for relievers, and the Phils came out of the winter meetings with one the more consistent relievers in baseball, Joaquin Benoit, at a bargain rate.
Still the team has some big holes on its roster. The team currently has no backup infielders, a severe lack of left-handed pitching, and the use for a left handed hitter with some pop.
I’ve mentioned the flexibility the team has in terms of its 40-man roster, and it still exists.
