Phillies Notebook: Woman hurt by foul underscores safety concerns

AFTER TAKING a called strike, Freddy Galvis got fooled by a changeup from Mets lefthander Jon Niese and barely got his bat around in time. The second-inning line drive left Galvis' bat and headed just to the left of the Phillies dugout.

The crowd gasped. Galvis immediately put his hands over his helmet and turned away. He didn't step back in the batter's box for 20 seconds or so.

Commissioner Rob Manfred, at last night's game at Citizens Bank Park, wasn't concerned about pace of play at the moment.

The foul ball hit a woman, seated five rows back, in the forehead.
