Trending Phillies News: Ed Wade could replace Ruben Amaro Jr. as GM

In today's Phillies news update, former Reds and Nationals GM (and current ESPN and MLB Network analyst) Jim Bowden believes that, if the Philadelphia Phillies decide to part ways with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. at the end of the year, Ed Wade could be waiting in the wings to replace him.

Per Steve Dolan of Whiz Wit Sports, Bowden made said statement on his radio show Wednesday, leaving room to speculate on whether a second tenure for Wade with the team would be the right move.

"My first reaction to this was "NOOOOOOOO,"' writes Dolan in his post on Wednesday. "But then I thought, "well, as long as he isn't the long-term solution, this might not be so bad." Wade was wise with his farm system while with the Phillies while turning over the Phillies roster to the "new" core that eventually led them to a World Championship in 2008. He had strong drafts under his watch (Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Cole Hamels) which certainly helped."

When Wade was fired in Philly, he left a solid foundation both farm system-wise and from an MLB talent perspective which gave then-GM Pat Gillick some very crucial pieces for the team's success.

Now, after a stint rebuilding the Houston Astros' farm system, Wade could be called back to action in Philadelphia depending on how the rest of this season goes.
