Eagles Expected To Release RB Ryan Mathews Once Healthy

ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentions that the addition of veteran LB LeGarrette Blount on Wednesday “probably winds up sealing the deal” on RB Ryan Mathews‘ departure once he’s healthy.

Michael Lombardi points out that the Eagles are still on the hook for Mathews’ injury protection, which is $1.15 million.

Mathews, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2009. After five years in San Diego, Mathews signed on with the Eagles and later received a three-year, $11 million contract extension with $5 million guaranteed.
