Chip Kelly Addresses Rumors That Eagles Signed DeMarco Murray To Hurt Dallas

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly says the team's move to sign DeMarco Murray wasn't predicated on hurting Murray's former team, the rival Dallas Cowboys.

We never look at it that way,’’ Kelly said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We’re just trying to acquire players. We don’t say let’s take this player over that player because it’s going to make that team weaker.

“I know Dallas is going to be a tough opponent when we play them this year.’’

For Kelly, the decision to ink Murray on a five-year, $40 million deal with $21 million guaranteed was based solely on Murray's production and expected value for the team.

“Obviously, you just look at him statistically in terms of what he did,’’ Kelly said. “You know what kind of workhorse back he is. He has unbelievable patience and vision.

“There’s a toughness to him. He never really takes negative yardage plays.’’

Murray was the NFL rushing champion in 2014, amassing 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
