Tampa Bay Buccaneers pick Penn State receiver Chris Godwin in third round

Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin didn’t sneak into the second round, but he did hear his name called Friday night as the NFL draft continued on Day 2.

And with that, Godwin gave the Nittany Lions their first and possibly only selection in 2017. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Penn State’s leading receiver this past season the 84th overall selection, the No. 20 pick in the third round. That’s about where Godwin was projected, but it could be a perfect landing spot for him with strong-armed quarterback Jameis Winston.

The knock on Godwin from some scouts and draft experts is his route-running and overall polish as a receiver, but he likely made himself plenty of money with the way he improved his stock late in the season and beyond.
