Penn State's James Franklin in Year 3: How his Big Ten coaching peers fared in their third seasons

Franklin is starting anew on a number of fronts going into his third season at Penn State with a first-year starting quarterback and new offensive and defensive coordinators. His team is beginning to resemble the Vanderbilt teams he guided to back-to-back 9-4 records before leaving for Happy Valley. Franklin is facing higher expectations than he ever did at Vanderbilt and is learning on the fly about modest goal-setting. He’s still building experience and depth after years of sanctions ravaged Penn State’s roster.
