Penn State's James Franklin in line to become country's highest paid black coach

After leading Penn State to a Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl appearance last season, James Franklin is in line to become the highest paid black college football coach in the country.

Penn State announced a six-year contract extension for Franklin on Friday, and Sport Illustrated's Bruce Feldman reported the deal will pay him $5.8 million annually. Last season, Texas' Charlie Strong took home $5.2 million in base salary, the sixth most of any coach in the nation and tops among black sideline generals, according to a database compiled by USA Today.
