NCAA honors Pitt men's basketball, women's tennis teams for academics

University of Pittsburgh’s men’s basketball and women’s tennis teams were recognized by the NCAA today for posting high Academic Progress Rates in the most recent report.

Both teams finished in the top 10 percent of their respective sports, with the newest data representing the four-year period from 2010-11 to 2013-14.

For the Panthers’ men’s basketball program, it was the fourth time it has been honored in the last five years. It was one of four ACC men’s basketball teams to be recognized.

Pitt basketball coach Jamie Dixon called the honor “a great source of pride.”

“Classroom achievement and graduating are essential to our basketball program’s foundation,” Dixon said in a statement.
