Pacific men’s soccer has something to prove after breakout season

STOCKTON — The Pacific men’s soccer team had a breakout season in 2016.

The Tigers made the NCAA tournament for the first time in just their third year and beat Cal State Northridge in the opening round before losing to No. 5 Stanford.

But that was last season. All that matters to the team is the present, beginning with an exhibition game against Westmont College at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Knoles Field. After another exhibition on Aug. 19 at Stanford, the Tigers open the season on Aug. 25 at Sacramento State.

“We’re going to be better than we were,” senior defender Tristan Blackmon said after practice Friday.
