STOCKTON — The Olympian on the court couldn't comprehend why her Florida State women's basketball team started so sluggishly.
With star senior Sydney Wiese's layup, No. 2 Oregon State took a 21-4 lead in the first quarter of an NCAA Stockton Regional semifinal against the No. 3 Seminoles on Saturday at Stockton Arena.
So Leticia Romero, a Florida State senior guard and a Spanish national team player, helped to make the Seminoles' misery short-lived.
Romero poured in a game-high 18 points on 67 percent shooting, surprising Oregon State with a barrage of midrange jumpers, and Florida State rallied for a 66-53 win Saturday at Stockton Arena.
