STOCKTON — The fans came from Oregon and Florida, from Connecticut and South Carolina. And, yes, they came from Stockton.

There never was a chance the NCAA Women's Stockton Regional, a Sweet 16 level event that will send one team to the Final Four, would sell out Stockton Arena.

That wasn't the expectation, and the fact that only one of the five Pacific-12 Conference teams that made the Sweet 16 fed through here made it a guarantee.

Imagine what would have happened if Stanford had played here.

Nonetheless, 4,500 fans in attendance, a nationwide audience on ESPN and four deserving teams helped make Saturday one of the most notable and prestigious sports events to be held in Stockton.
