Big plays hurt the Mustangs

STOCKTON - After a valiant effort to reclaim the lead in the fourth quarter, the Delta Mustangs surrendered a pair of big-play touchdowns to the Siskiyous Eagles and lost 33-26 Saturday afternoon at DeRicco Field.

Delta seemed primed to avenge last season's loss to the Eagles when Jason Nelson and Vicente Trejo stripped Siskiyous kickoff returner Dylan Scaggs of the football with less than 8 minutes to play. Nelson suddenly appeared out of a pile of Delta tacklers with the football, and he raced 15 yards to the end zone for a 26-19 lead.

It was the first lead of the game for the Mustangs (1-3) after multiple miscues kept its fatigued defense on the field.
