Senators sign veteran defenceman Johnny Oduya

The Ottawa Senators have added solid veteran experience to their blueline, signing 35-year-old Johnny Oduya, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, on Monday.

Maybe with an eye on pairing the Swedish defenceman with Erik Karlsson, the Senators gave Oduya a one-year, $1-million contract – there are also incentives for games played, time-on-ice and playoff bonuses that could add up to another $1,250,000.

Oduya started last season with the Dallas Stars before a February trade returned him to the Chicago Blackhawks. In 52 regular-season games, he had two goals and seven assists. In his career, Oduya has 37 goals and 145 assists in 798 games – with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets, Chicago and Dallas.
