Senators' Chris Phillips 'feeling so helpless' as wildfires engulf Fort McMurray

The horrifying images on television from the wildfires that have forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray hit home for Chris Phillips.

He is at the point he no longer wants to look at them.

The bio of the Senators’ alternate captain says he was born in Calgary but he spent his whole life in Fort McMurray and has gone back almost yearly since he left to chase his hockey dreams before being drafted No. 1 by Ottawa in 1996. Phillips is devastated by what’s happening to the community he calls home.

“It’s really hard. To be honest, I’m trying not to see what it looks like,” Phillips said Wednesday morning from his Ottawa home.
