Brassard, Hammond standouts as Senators fall in Buffalo

BUFFALO -

Derick Brassard was a little nervous about making his debut with the Senators, even it was only a the pre-season.

Senators GM Pierre Dorion probably didn’t like the final result at the KeyBank Center on Tuesday night, but he can be quite pleased the club’s top acquisition in the off-season in a trade from the New York Rangers looked right at home in a 3-2 OT loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Not only did Brassard look pretty slick playing on a line with Bobby Ryan and Zack Smith, just for good measure he gave the club a 2-1 lead in the third before Buffalo’s Derek Grant tied it up in the third with 4:41 to go on Matt O’Connor, who took over in the third.
