Magic acquire Shabazz Napier and cash from the Heat

The Orlando Magic have agreed to acquire point guard Shabazz Napier from the Miami Heat for a future protected second-round draft pick.

Napier, 24, would give the Magic additional depth at point guard, a position where Elfrid Payton is entrenched as the starter and free-agent signee C.J. Watson will serve as Payton's backup. Napier also would be able to contribute some scoring off the bench.

Napier appeared in 51 games as a rookie last season, with mixed results.

In 19.8 minutes per game, he averaged 5.1 points, 2.5 assists and 1.6 turnovers. Although Napier made just 38.
