There were a couple reasons Sunday’s match at Yankee Stadium was important for Orlando City:
1. To prove the club could translate home success to the road.
2. It marked coach Jason Kreis’ first trip to the stadium since NYCFC fired him at the end of the 2015 season.
Cyle Larin scored twice for the Lions (5-1-0, 15 points) as they quieted doubters and made their coach look good, taking three points in a 2-1 win over New York City FC (3-3-1, 10 points) and rising to the top of Eastern Conference table despite playing fewer games than any other team in the conference.
