Report: Houston Rockets waive former Oregon State guard Gary Payton II

The Houston Rockets have waived former Oregon State guard Gary Payton II, according to a report by Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Per NBA rules, other teams would have 48 hours to claim Payton's contract or he would become a free agent. Payton reportedly signed a three-year contract with Houston during the summer after he went unselected in the 2016 NBA draft.

Payton spent the previous two seasons in Corvallis after transferring from Salt Lake Community College and helped lead the Beavers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1990 as a senior.

The son of former OSU great and Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Gary Payton, the 6-foot-3 guard was a two-time first team all-Pac-12 guard and two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
