Darren Carrington, the star receiver who was arrested July 1 on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants, pleaded not guilty Friday in Eugene Municipal Court.

Attorney Barry Engle entered the written plea on Carrington's behalf, according to a court spokeswoman. He had been scheduled to be arraigned Friday, one week after coach Willie Taggart dismissed the senior from the Ducks program. He is next scheduled to appear Aug. 8 for a disposition of his case. Carrington is eligible to enter diversion should he choose that route, the official said.

Carrington, 22, was arrested at 3:15 a.
