Kyle Battle had four of Old Dominion's season-high 18 hits Sunday in the Monarchs' series-clinching 9-2 victory over No. 16 Southern Miss in Conference USA baseball at Pete Taylor Park.
Freshman left-hander John Wilson (6-1) went five innings, allowing four hits and two runs, to get the win in ODU's first road series victory over a ranked opponent since 2000, when it swept No. 21 East Carolina. It also marked the first time the Golden Eagles had dropped a home C-USA series since April 2015.
The Monarchs (28-12, 12-6) led 4-2 when they broke the game open with two runs in the seventh inning and three in the eighth.
