Separation of politics and expansion? The two together are inevitable, but aren't always helpful for Big 12

Before he became a politician, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was a sportscaster and talk show host.
As this week showed, old habits are hard to break.

Patrick spiced up the Big 12 expansion discussion with a couple quotes to Mark Berman of Houston's Fox 26, continuing his strong public backing of Texas schools Houston and SMU.

"They [Big 12 schools] have to vote," Patrick told Berman, the station's sports director.
