OU football: Why OU's secondary is struggling so far this season

NORMAN — Answers are in short supply for Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops early in the season.

His defense has struggled by almost any measure.

The Sooners are 88th nationally in passing yards allowed (248.3 per game). They're tied for 71st in rushing defense (152.7) and tied for 78th in total defense (401.0). Oklahoma is 111th in pass-efficiency defense (153.59). They're one of only 14 Football Bowl Subdivision teams (of 128) without an interception.

The numbers could go on and on. None of them, on the defensive side, are any good for the 1-2 Sooners.

“We're not playing well as a team,” Stoops said.
