LUBBOCK, Texas — Baker Mayfield didn't necessarily come back to his old stomping grounds with something to prove, but surrounded by a stellar cast, he made a point anyway in No. 16 Oklahoma's 66-59 win.
"It's great to come in here and get a victory, obviously there's a lot of history," Mayfield said. "It's college football and that's what makes it fun."
On a night where Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes dazzled, Oklahoma's quarterback smashed school and personal records with a seven-touchdown game, racking up 545 yards on 27 of 36 attempts.
“Those were two of the greatest quarterback performances, and to have it on the same field in the same night, those two guys were just incredible,” Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley said.
